“Everyone would really be original if people did not collect undigested ideas in their heads and give them out again undigested.”- Rahel Levin
Salons are gatherings where people talk “big talk,” talk meant to be listened to and perhaps passionately acted upon. Salons are incubators where ideas are conceived, gestated, and hatched. Salons are the frontiers of social and cultural change: they’re cultivating creativity, reviving the art of conversation, and fueling energy to change the world.
An important reason for a salon is to practice creativity in a setting where one needn’t fear judgment of his/her efforts. We risk ignorance when we choose to receive information passively. Talking with others is one way out of this bind. Salons encourage probing the complexities of our world. At salons, people search for meaning and come to trust their own ability to evaluate all the information that is thrown at them.
Conversation is the way we convey information, inspire each other, and achieve understanding. Conversation is the way we challenge, amuse, and amaze each other.
This salon will highlight "Manifolds," by Dance Artist Rose Shields. “Manifolds” is a dance performance work about the interconnectedness of human movement, architecture, and dimensions in relation to our human existence. The word “manifold” can mean “a whole that unites or consists of many,” “a pipe fitting with several outlets for connecting with other pipes,” or in mathematics, “a continuous geometrical structure having finite dimension.” Shields questions the meaning of our human existence as she looks at how the individual and the community connect with the concepts of architecture and dimension, the physical versus the abstract, and the struggle and growth that is life.

Campaign to Support Core Dance
Core Dance creates art, facilitates art-making, and engenders art engagement for those seeking to connect with what makes us uniquely human: our intellect, our emotional body, our spiritual center. The body is our playground, movement our building blocks. Within our bodies resides the whole of life, every truth. Through dance and the process of creating it we activate that which makes us individually unique and connect it to that which makes us indivisibly One. Core Dance was founded in 1980 by Sue Schroeder. We call both Atlanta, GA and Houston, TX home. We cultivate dance awareness and education nationally and internationally through our three organizational initiatives: Core Performs, Core Presents and Core Connects. Core Performance Company, the professional contemporary dance company of Core, is internationally acclaimed for its emotionally lucid and instantly accessible work.
