Monday, March 17th, 10 am to 11:30 am
Class Instructor: Scott Wheet
Class Description: This class is designed for the intermediate to advanced dancer, with a focus on contemporary forms, floorwork and release. We'll prepare the body for movement through somatic prompts and gentle stretching, investigating concepts like gravity, effort, and momentum along the way. As our bodies become warm and available, I’ll facilitate bridging the gap between our horizontal and vertical bodies with pathways that explore folding, sliding, pushing and pulling. Over time, we will build a common vocabulary that layers upon itself, encouraging a flow-like state for full-bodied movement & expression.
Instructor Bio: Scott Wheet, born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, began dancing at the age of 17 following nearly a decade of experience in music and theater. In 2015, Scott graduated summa cum laude from Troy University with a BFA in Dance. Since moving to Atlanta, he has worked alongside T. Lang Dance, Core Dance, Staibdance and Fly on a Wall as an artist and collaborator. During this time, Scott also developed skills as a stage manager and lighting designer, supporting independent artists throughout the southeast. In 2022, Scott joined Terminus Modern Ballet Theatre as Director of Production, and is now regularly performing with the company as a guest artist.

In Support of Core Dance
For four decades, Core Dance has supported innovation, collaboration, artistic risk-taking and sustainable art-making in dance. An award-winning contemporary dance organization with global reach, Core Dance creates, performs, and produces compelling original dance that ignites the creative spirit and actively encourages participation and conversation with the community. In 1980, Core Dance was co-founded in Houston, Texas by dancer and choreographer Sue Schroeder and her sister, Kathy Russell. Five years later, the organization added Atlanta, Georgia as a second home base, creating a platform for dance that is relevant in both cities and around the globe. Core Dance uses dance to educate, question and illuminate, and is internationally recognized for its artistically driven research practices, cross-cultural and multi-disciplinary collaborations, the humanity of the individual Dance Artists, and its rigorous physicality.
